The Feed-a-Family Program is our farm’s step toward ensuring that healthy, fresh, local produce is available to families of all income levels. As a state, Oregon suffers from both high levels of child obesity and food insecure families. While seemingly disparate, these two trends highlight the issue of many low income families not having adequate access to affordable healthy food options.

This program is started in memory of Mike’s dad, Jim Paine. Jim loved the farm and we all envisioned that he would spend his summers helping Mike and becoming a farmer himself. The unjust ways of poverty and hunger were something that always saddened Jim and we could think of no better way to honor his memory than to connect the farm he loved with families in need of a helping hand. All donated shares are gifted in his memory and are a step toward making the change he wanted to see in the world.

This season Gaining Ground Farm will provide 10% of its total shares to food insecure families, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the bounty of Oregon’s summer harvest as well.

How can I help to promote the program?

As the Feed-a-Family Program is supported through private donations, one of the easiest ways to promote this program is to make a contribution towards a donated share. This is a direct step towards giving a family in need access to healthy food options. All funds raised go directly towards providing donated shares.

How can I receive a donated share?
If you are, or know of, a family that could benefit from receiving a share, please contact us for more information.
